The Maryland Horse Library & Education Center is thrilled to welcome California author Mark Shrager, whose latest book, The First Kentucky Derby: Thirteen Black Jockeys, One Shady Owner, and the Little Red Horse That Wasn’t Supposed to Win has just been released.
A turf writer and racing historian, Shrager has produced earlier works on the first woman to ride in the Kentucky Derby, Diane Crump: A Horse Racing Pioneer’s Life in the Saddle, and the history of Pimlico’s iconic race, The Great Sweepstakes of 1877.
An author talk will be held Thursday, Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. Attendance is free.
