Applications due April 21, 2023!

Launched in 2017, the Maryland Thoroughbred Career Program is an educational program presented by the Maryland Horse Foundation (MHF) that aims to:

  • Increase awareness of the diverse career options in the Thoroughbred industry
  • Give participants access to leaders of the Maryland Thoroughbred community
  • Highlight various paths for pursuing a career in the Thoroughbred industry
  • Address a critical need to attract and retain experienced and devoted employees

Over the course of a week, participants are encouraged to fully engage in the Maryland Thoroughbred industry and explore a multitude of career options. Graduates of the MTCP are eligible to apply for Career Development Funds, one-time funding that can be used to further career pursuits within two years after the program ends.

Camp Claddagh Horsemanship & Show Prep Clinic

All participants have mounted and unmounted lessons daily, and are responsible for the complete care of their horse or pony, with the guidance of our experienced staff.

Mounted instruction focuses on the fundamentals of riding, with an emphasis on control, balance, and safety. Riders will have lessons in groups of riders at the appropriate level. Riders will practice equitation, hunters, dressage, trail and cross-country, gymnastics and more.

Unmounted Horsemanship Instruction focuses on educating the campers with interesting and exciting demos, lectures and hands-on opportunities. The experience of being totally responsible for their horse during camp is a great opportunity to learn proper and safe horse care and the commitment of horse ownership.

Camp Claddagh

Session 1: June 27th – July 1st

Session 2: August 22nd – August 26th

Sun, ponies, outdoor adventures and a giant water slide….the definition of an awesome week of summer camp in our opinion!

Campers ride daily with a mix of ring lessons that focus on the fundamentals of horse and rider and fun lessons which encourage relaxed enjoyment of their equine friends. Fun lessons include trail rides, playing games on horseback, and even taking some of our water-loving horses to the river! No horse-crazy kid’s day would be complete without rolling up their sleeves and getting a little dirty! Ample time for grooming, tacking, untacking and barn chores are included in the day.
