Here's your opportunity to learn the inner workings of a top international sporthorse breeding and training facility! Hilltop Farm is now accepting applications for our six-month internship program that offers two learning tracks - 1) Broodmare/Young Horse Management and 2) General Equine Management. Each track offers a specialized focus while giving time to experience ‘the complete sporthorse center’ from top competition horses, renowned stallions, and quality broodmares,foals, and young horses.This is a working internship opportunity that requires a six month, five days/week commitment. Benefits include hands-on training, regular education and observation time, housing, and a monthly stipend.

Learning Opportunities Include:

  • hilltop home 03Participate in AHS/ARS and ISR/Oldenburg Inspections
  • Possibility to attend USEF/USDF Recognized Breed Shows
  • Teach foals/young horses basic handling and grooming
  • Prep young horses for shows
  • Follow a mare’s breeding cycling from insemination to foaling
  • Participate in foal watch
  • Learn stallion management techniques

The three internships available are a 1 or 2-week shadowing program (offered up to 4 times per year), 1 or 2-month internship (offered up to 2 times a year), and a semester internship (available by request, based on circumstances). The shadowing program is open to high school and college students, with the internships offered only to college students.

DEFHR offers six internships throughout the year: Equine Care & Rehabiltation Internship, Equine Training Internship, Event Planning and Marketing Internship, Social Media and Community Management Internship, Farm-Based Educator Internship, and Marketing and Development Internship. 

About DEFHR: Since its founding, Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR) has gone from a small non-profit sheltering a few horses to a full-scale, well-respected national rescue and rehabilitation facility sheltering 110 to 150 horses annually. All horses come through animal protection agencies from across Maryland and surrounding states.

Apply for the opportunity to intern with the Washington International Horse Show and learn what goes into producing the country’s leading metropolitan indoor equestrian event. WIHS interns gain valuable professional experience and learn about all aspects of our business, including event logistics, operations, sponsorship, hospitality, marketing and communications, while earning credit towards a college degree.

WIHS accepts applications for part-time, unpaid internships at our Washington, DC, office throughout the calendar year. Applications are considered according to the following schedule. Application deadline for: Summer Semester Internships: April 1 (May-August); Fall Semester Internships: August 1 (September-December); Spring Semester Internships: December 20 (January-May).
